Nigerian police forces have intensified security operations across several states, resulting in the arrest of armed robbers, suspected kidnappers, and cultists in coordinated actions over the past 24 hours.

In Rivers State, police arrested Austine Emenike, known as “Oyibo,” a suspected armed robbery kingpin and gunrunner, in Aluu village, Ikwerre Local Government Area. The arrest was confirmed by Rivers State Police spokesperson ASP Blessing Kaborlo Agabe, who stated the operation occurred following intelligence leads. Ammunition was recovered during the operation, according to a police statement released on Monday.

Detectives in Delta State apprehended two individuals suspected of attempted kidnapping in Ughelli, within Ughelli North Local Government Area. The suspects, identified as Iliyasu Hassan, 16, and Idris Abdulkarim, 32, were captured during a joint operation involving police and a local vigilante group, the Daily Trust reported.

In Katsina State, seven suspected armed robbers were taken into custody following an intelligence-led investigation into a recent robbery incident. According to DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, spokesman for the Katsina State Police Command, operatives recovered stolen mobile phones, power banks, and weapons linked to the suspects’ activities.

Meanwhile, in Kwara State, police arrested two suspected members of rival cult groups. A locally fabricated pistol was recovered during the operation, the command said. The arrests follow a deadly shooting incident near the Post Office area of Ilorin that left four people dead and two injured, underscoring rising concerns over cult-related violence in the region.

Operations in Rivers, Delta, Katsina, and Kwara were all described as intelligence-driven, reflecting a broader pattern of police reliance on targeted raids and community collaboration. No official statement has been issued on potential links between the arrested individuals or broader syndicates.
