The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Abuja Region, has announced a planned outage at the Katampe 132/33 kilovolt (kV) transmission substation scheduled for Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The outage is necessary to conduct preventive maintenance on the 100MVA 132/33kV power transformer (TR1), its auxiliary systems, and associated switchgear.
According to TCN, the maintenance work is essential to ensure grid reliability and prevent unplanned disruptions in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The utility emphasized that such scheduled interventions are part of routine operational protocols to maintain system integrity and prolong equipment lifespan.
Channels Television and Vanguard News both reported the outage, citing TCN’s official communication. The maintenance at Katampe substation is expected to temporarily affect power supply across parts of Abuja. TCN urged consumers to prepare for the interruption and advised against connecting or operating equipment during the outage window to avoid damage upon restoration.
While the exact load shedding impact in megawatts was not disclosed, the Katampe substation serves a critical load zone within the FCT’s power distribution network. The outage reflects TCN’s ongoing efforts to balance maintenance needs with service continuity in Nigeria’s transmission infrastructure.
