The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday arraigned Ahmed Dikko, former managing director of the Port Harcourt Refining Company Limited (PHCL), on charges of laundering N1.32 billion.
Dikko was charged before a federal high court over alleged illicit financial transactions during his tenure at the state-owned refinery. The EFCC alleges that the funds were laundered through a series of unauthorized financial movements tied to his official position.
The charge was confirmed by Business Day, which reported the arraignment took place on July 8, 2026. Naija News also reported the case, identifying Dikko as a former managing director of PHCL, though it cited a slightly different figure of ₦1.3 billion in connection with the case.
The EFCC did not disclose specific details of the laundering mechanism in its initial statement. However, the commission has increasingly targeted financial misconduct in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector under its broader anti-corruption mandate.
Dikko is entitled to a fair trial and has not yet entered a plea, according to standard judicial procedure. The court is expected to determine the next steps in the legal process following the arraignment.
