French media giant Canal+ has completed its acquisition of MultiChoice, integrating the African pay television operator fully into its Global Media Group. The move positions MultiChoice as a subsidiary of Canal+, enhancing its operational reach across Africa and boosting international expansion, according to David Mignot, CEO of Canal+ Africa and MultiChoice.

The transaction strengthens MultiChoice’s presence in key African markets, where it operates streaming platform Showmax and satellite service DStv. Canal+ says the integration will allow for greater investment in local content and digital infrastructure, supporting growth across the continent. "This integration positions MultiChoice within a global media organisation with an extensive international footprint," Mignot said in a statement.

MultiChoice, headquartered in South Africa, has long been a dominant player in African television and digital entertainment. With the acquisition, Canal+ consolidates its position as a leading media force in Africa, combining MultiChoice’s regional reach with its own global distribution networks. The French company emphasized that the deal will expand its international reach, particularly in English- and Portuguese-speaking African markets.

The acquisition was confirmed by Premium Times, which reported that the deal is expected to drive content innovation and improve service delivery across the region. No financial terms were disclosed. The integration follows months of regulatory review across multiple African jurisdictions.
