Abducted pupils and teachers from Oriire in Oyo State have been rescued following a coordinated operation by Nigerian security agencies, according to Bayo Onanuga, who announced the development on X. The rescue concluded months of operations involving forces from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the State Security Service (SSS), the Nigerian Army, and other agencies, Premium Times reported.

No concessions were made to the kidnappers during the operation, Onanuga stated. The successful mission marked a significant breakthrough in efforts to secure the release of the victims, who had been held for an undisclosed period.

Eight of the kidnappers have been arrested and are now in the custody of the Department of State Services, the Presidency confirmed via Vanguard News. Some of the suspects were killed during the operation, the report added, underscoring the intensity of the security response.

The multi-agency effort highlights ongoing efforts by Nigerian authorities to combat rising incidents of mass abductions in schools. The rescue in Oriire follows a pattern of similar operations in other parts of the country, though specific details on the number of victims freed were not disclosed in the reports.
