Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo has demanded that former presidential candidate and ex-Anambra State governor Peter Obi issue a public apology and pay a 25,000-naira fine within seven days, following a dispute over the clamping of Obi’s vehicle at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

Keyamo’s demand stems from Obi’s public assertion that his vehicle was clamped without justification while parked at the airport. However, according to the minister, closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the airport contradicts Obi’s account. Premium Times reported that the footage shows Obi’s vehicle violated parking regulations, justifying the enforcement action taken by airport authorities.

“Peter Obi has seven days to apologise for lying and violating airport rules,” Keyamo stated, as quoted in a report by Peoples Gazette. The minister emphasized that the fine is in line with prescribed regulations and that Obi must also apologize to airport workers for falsely accusing them of misconduct.

The dispute highlights ongoing tensions between public officials and government enforcement mechanisms, particularly in high-visibility settings such as federal airports. Keyamo reiterated that no individual, regardless of political stature, is exempt from compliance with standard operating procedures. He affirmed that appropriate consequences would follow if Obi fails to comply within the stipulated period.

The incident has drawn public attention to the enforcement of airport regulations and the use of surveillance evidence in resolving public disputes. As of now, Obi has not issued a public response to the minister’s ultimatum.
